Our DEI program at Bureau Works is based on five pillars:
1) Welcoming vulnerability. And addressing it head-on. Really.
2) Focusing on the Quantitative and the Qualitative
3) Management buy-in
4) Meritocracy not relationships
5) Diversity in the broadest sense of the word
Let's discuss each of them:
1) Welcoming vulnerability. And addressing it head-on. Really.
We don't pretend to be indestructible or beyond human-cyborg executives. We are mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, fathers, sisters, brothers. We have good days and bad days. We need help on bad days. It's ok to admit those. We believe in the power of a group that truly supports itself towards its goals not in spite of our humanity but exactly because of it.
As part of a social experiment, our CEO was ultra candid on LinkedIn for months in order to demonstrate to our entire organization that it's ok to expose how we feel about things. We foster an environment where people can feel like they can express themselves directly and authentically as opposed to spending time and energy trying to navigate a political maze.
2) Focusing on the Quantitative and the Qualitative
We focus on data to understand overall trends and inflection points but we take the qualitative aspect of individual interactions to heart. We listen to the quant and the qual in order to develop a comprehensive understanding of how our actions are shaping the world around us.
3) Management buy-in
Our Management is committed to the ideals of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion beyond complying with current legislation and best practices. 33% of our Executive team is Women-led. We are determined to grow this number not just as a statistic but as an overall reflection of the diversity required to build a well-balanced business.
4) Meritocracy not relationships
We don't believe companies should reward the people that everyone likes or those that know how to get on the good side of organization leaders. We want to reward results and attitude. Regardless of position, regardless of personal marketing capabilities, we want to reward those who are delivering the most.
5) Diversity in the broadest sense of the word
For us Diversity begins with Diversity of thoughts and ideas. It's about fostering an environment where people feel comfortable taking on a contrarian perspective. it's about creating a place where people feel welcome and accepted regardless of their social, economic, or ethnic background. As a global operation, we are naturally exposed to hundreds of cultures and ways of being and have acceptance understanding as a core requirement to operate harmoniously with our clients, team and providers.
