Managing Zen Mode

What is Zen Mode?

Zen Mode is a workflow-level setting that creates a cleaner and less distracting workspace by hiding the Preview Panel and Navigation Sidebar by default when a file is loaded in the Editor. Users can expand these panels anytime they need. Zen Mode is perfect for teams who want a distraction-reduced environment, especially in translation or high-focus workflows.

How Zen Mode Works

  • When Zen Mode is enabled for a workflow:

    • Preview Panel and Navigation Sidebar are hidden automatically when a file opens in the Editor.

    • Users can expand both panels manually at any time; nothing is blocked or removed.

    • The Editor remains fully functional and responsive.

    • This setting only affects the specific workflow where it is enabled. Other workflows remain unchanged.

How to Enable Zen Mode (as Account Admin)

Zen Mode is configured at the workflow level through the workflow’s settings.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Workflows section in your Bureau Works admin area.

  2. In the workflow’s Settings you will see the Zen Mode Configuration, inside Zen Mode Configuration Box choose the specifics workflows that you want to activate the Zen Mode functionalily (e.g Transcription and Raw MT are activated):

  3. Save your changes.

  4. Open a job in the Editor that uses this workflow. The Preview Panel and Navigation Sidebar will now be hidden by default, but users can still access them as needed.

How to Enable Zen Mode (with other roles)

Unlike Account Admin, to activate Zen Mode with other roles you will first validate whether the user has the Workflow Configuration permission active for him or not, with the active permission you can activate Zen Mode at the Org Unit level through that user.

  1. In the permissions tab, and granularizing to the org unit level, you will see the permission below, when activating it, it will be possible to change Zen Mode.

  2. After activating the permission, the user can determine in which workflows he can activate zen mode at the unit level.

What Users Experience

  • When opening a file in a workflow with Zen Mode enabled, the Editor will show a clean, distraction-free interface.

  • The Preview Panel and Navigation Sidebar are collapsed but can be expanded at any time by clicking their toggles.

  • Panels will remain visible for the session if expanded, but the Editor will return to Zen Mode (panels hidden) the next time a new file is opened.

  • All other features and permissions remain unchanged; Zen Mode only changes the initial layout.

Limitations and Scope

  • Zen Mode only affects the initial visibility of the Preview Panel and Navigation Sidebar.

  • It does not restrict access; users can always open both panels as needed.

  • The setting is per workflow—other workflows in your account are not affected.

  • The Editor’s layout stays responsive and fully usable across all devices and window sizes.
