The Split Work Unit feature allows you to divide a high-volume Work Unit into smaller, independent parts that can be assigned to different vendors. This functionality offers greater operational flexibility and improves resource allocation, especially in projects with tight deadlines or large volumes of content.

When to use Split Work Unit?
You might consider using Split Work Unit in the following scenarios:
When a single WU contains a very large number of words or segments.
When you need to distribute the workload across multiple vendors to meet a delivery deadline.
How Split Work Unit works
Prerequisites
The project must be in a status that allows Work Units to be split (
Draft
orPending
).The WU must not be assigned to any vendor at the time of the split (i.e., it cannot be in the
Assigned
status).
Step-by-step
Go to the Overview tab of the desired project.
Select the Work Unit you want to split (by checking the corresponding checkbox).
Click the Split file option.
A modal will appear with the following fields:
Split type: currently, the only available option is "Into X Parts", which allows you to split the Work Unit based on the number of segments. The split is done proportionally, according to the total number of segments in the WU.
Total segments: displays the total number of segments in the selected Work Unit. This helps determine how the split will be distributed and allows you to preview the relative size of each part.
Number of parts: Input field where you specify into how many parts the Work Unit should be divided. The value you enter determines how the segments will be proportionally and automatically distributed among the new WUs.
What happens after the split?
The original WU will be split into multiple Work Units, each containing a proportional number of segments. In the image above, you can see an example where a WU was split into two separate parts.
Each new WU can be managed and assigned to different vendors independently.
All new WUs retain the original project settings, such as TM, glossaries, language, etc.
The progress and status of each new WU are tracked separately.
Important notes
The split cannot be undone once confirmed.
When a WU is split, individual logfiles are generated for each resulting part. Keep in mind that generating a logfile for only a subset of files or slices may affect intrafile and interfile leverage efficiency, including the propagation of repetitions.
If the WU contains only one segment, it cannot be split.
The split respects the original logical order of the segments, preserving content flow and integrity.
