This article aims to provide you with instructions on importing and exporting bilingual files in Bureau Works.

✍️ A bilingual file refers to a document that contains text in two languages, typically the source language and its corresponding translation. These files are commonly used in translation and localization processes, allowing linguists and professionals to work on both the original content and its translated version within the same file.

At present, Bureau Works supports the utilization of bilingual files in the .XLSX format. Upon downloading our bilingual files, you'll gain access to more comprehensive information beyond just the source and target content.

These files will provide information about:

​Editable Cells: Cells available for translation/editing.
​Locked Cells: Locked cells will not be imported to the Editor. To import edited locked cells, these cells/segments will have to be first unlocked in the editor.
​Hidden Cells: Not visible for users.
​Origin Cells: Display the origin of the original translation (TM, MT or NT) based on the pre-translation of the file.
​Repetitions Cells: A cell has a background in a different color to identify as a repetition.

Additionally, the file will include columns displaying contextual keys (if present) and segment numbers, as well as the source and target sections. Within the source and target columns, you will naturally encounter the original content and its corresponding translation.

In order to export bilingual files, you need to click on "Import/Export", select the option "XLSX" and then choose between the options "Whole project at workflow" or "Selected Work Units".

Whole project at workflow: Once you've chosen the desired workflow for download, a bilingual file will be generated for each file and target language within the project. These files will be packaged within a .ZIP folder for your convenience.

Selected Work Units: You also have the choice to pick the specific work units you'd like to download. These selected files will also be enclosed within a .ZIP folder, even if you decide to choose just one.

To successfully import a bilingual file, it first needs to be exported directly from Bureau Works. Exported files have the necessary characteristics to be imported back. It's not possible to import files created outside of Bureau Works.

From the project Overview tab, you may click on "Import/Export" and then on "Bulk import zip":

The following window will open, and you must select the option "XLSX" and choose if you want the imported segments to be automatically confirmed.

After selecting the .ZIP file to be uploaded, click on "Import" and wait until the "Close" button appears.

And there you have it! Your bilingual file has been successfully uploaded, and you will now observe the populated target segments.
